Meet Lucia Cayetano-Guity: Author, Therapist, and Traveler

My name is Lucia Cayetano-Guity. I was born in Livingston, Guatemala, and raised there until the age of eight. I migrated to the USA with my parents at the age of eleven.
I am now a widow of a 36-year marriage and have a son serving in the U.S. Navy.
I earned my graduate degree from Fordham University School of Social Services as a Master’s-level Clinical Social Worker.
As a licensed therapist and bilingual social worker, I worked for the Office of Mental Health with the State of New York for 26 years.
During this time, I made a positive impact on the lives of individuals, families, and groups in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, prison systems, and community health centers.
I retired in May 2018 from Bronx Psychiatric Hospital.
As a proud Garífuna woman, I have lived my life guided by cultural values and principles such as resilience, self-reliance, and self-sufficiency.
I value the importance of family, education, nature, and healthy gastronomy—practicing garden-to-table living. Gardening and traveling are two of my greatest passions.
My mission is to empower individuals, helping them unlock their inner strength to discover passion and purpose and achieve meaningful goals that bring self-fulfillment.
As a widow, I have developed coping skills that have helped me heal from the grief and loss of my beloved husband.
Widows are often overlooked and left without the essential support needed to thrive and rebuild their lives, and I advocate for creating spaces where they can feel supported.
Similarly, Navy moms face bittersweet emotions as they endure silent fears of the unknown. They, too, require strong support systems to navigate these challenges.
Traveling has been a transformative experience for me. It has boosted my confidence and opened doors to new adventures and opportunities.
This passion inspired me to establish Garífuna Travel Journey LLC.
As an author, I have written several books. One of my books was published and received 5-star reviews, which further boosted my self-esteem and confidence to embrace independence and self-sufficiency.
I have learned to practice kindness and compassion toward myself and others. Above all, I remain grateful for the air I breathe, which is the very source of life
